“Mental health needs a great deal of attention. It’s the final taboo and it needs to be faced and dealt with.”
– Adam Ant
So many people today are suffering from depression and much other mental illnesses. We all are trying to survive. We all are getting into health and fitness lifestyle, trying to adapt broccoli, avocado, green tea, black coffee and so much more —-the list is never-ending.
But what about our mental health?
I think the solution to every mental health is self-love. We are never taught to love our selves and accept our selves the way we are. Since childhood, the one thing we are always pushed is into comparison and competition, Bring better grades than your friends, stand first in class, get admission into a better college than others, try to get a better and high paycheck job, everything is either related to race or comparison. But why?
Today, even toddlers have an expensive lifestyle than elders. A better playschool, our ultimate goal was to get into any school with better education facility, today’s parents ultimate goal is to admit their kids to either a private school whose fees is as equal to engineering college fees or sometimes even more than that, or to some international schools.
Like everything is now either related to brand, race, and comparison. Our lifestyle and thinking have become so expensive for what sake? Showoff? we ourselves have made our life so complicated and so many expectations and high hopes are there in our lifestyle that we have forgotten how to live.
“It’s up to you today to start making healthy choices. Not choices that are just healthy for your body, but healthy for your mind.”
― Steve Maraboli
Mental peace is difficult to find today because of so many factors that affect our mind and give stress to us. It is not easy to take care of our mental health. But it’s not impossible.
I am no expert in mental illness issues and how to tackle them but I have noticed and felt that most of this problem occurs when we lose our self-worth and self-love and get lost in this world which is so cruel.
Mental illness is important especially today when it’s so rampant and common but we still ignore it. When you have fever, or any other physical health issue you visit to a doctor, then why people feel uncomfortable to visit a specialist for mental illness?
“It doesn’t have to take over your life, it doesn’t have to define you as a person, it’s just important that you ask for help. It’s not a sign of weakness.”
— Demi Lovato
Healthy mind, body and soul, all three are important to lead a balanced and healthy life. I am not saying that problems and stress is going to end but there are ways to deal with them in a healthy way which many people lack. There are times when things go so much out of control for a particular person that it is difficult for one to know how to deal with it and sometimes this itself leads to suicide when people fall into hopelessness.
Try to get into self-love and if you are a parent or close to becoming one make sure you instill this self-love into your kids and also never compare them and push them into race. Let them learn how to live life in a healthy way possible and make them feel that they are loved.
Self-love may not solve all the problems but it is the most important key to most of your problems.
